Thor, the Norse God of Thunder, had a hammer named Mjölnir. Mjölnir was considered a fierce weapon that could level mountains and summon lightning with every blow. In this poetry blog, every Thursday, (Thor’s Day), Mjölnir will forge only song - sing of the mysteries and beauties of the world.

UTILITY
(ode to a woodpecker)

no grubs, beetles or sap
no bark to plunder
no oak in sight
foraging isn’t the issue

spring is

she is high above the houses
on a pole that runs
power between them

almost invisible
she drums her message like a voltage
among the wires

rat-a-tat-tats she is ready
hammers unabashedly I am
open for business

  1. Nice....Spring has sprung out here in Philadelphia too, except my version of the woodpecker is a concert of frogs!
