Thor, the Norse God of Thunder, had a hammer named Mjölnir. Mjölnir was considered a fierce weapon that could level mountains and summon lightning with every blow. In this poetry blog, every Thursday, (Thor’s Day), Mjölnir will forge only song - sing of the mysteries and beauties of the world.

THE SIGNAL

You are a sign.
A sounding.

A solution.
Experience experience

As music,
Not cacophony.

Let choice
Be the symphony.

The conductor be
your choosing.

SELF-SABOTAGE

Between
the hostage

and the abductor
there’s a complicity

that is loveless,
that can turn habit

into homelessness,
if you let it.

METEOROLOGY

It doesn’t take much
to overlay

an atmosphere of
assumption

on to any scene
or situation.

Who knows
really

what’s what,
right?

Do you?
I don’t.

It’s all make-believe,
smoke and mirrors,

a meteorology
of the mind.

Whatever we tell ourselves
is only today’s forecast,

a passing
precipitation–

presumption–
no more real than

newsroom wizardry
made for the blue screen.

HABITAT

A fox
will sniff for food
at the back door
and later leave
its scat at the front.

A deer at night will
dookie-up the lawn
and nonchalantly
the next day
nibble on
the low hanging leaves
in the yard.

The men
inside the house
will shoot the shit
for days and then,
in tamer moments,
scrupulously
sift through the landscape
of their lives
for the stink of habits
that keep them
comfortable
and ravenous
at once.
