Thor, the Norse God of Thunder, had a hammer named Mjölnir. Mjölnir was considered a fierce weapon that could level mountains and summon lightning with every blow. In this poetry blog, every Thursday, (Thor’s Day), Mjölnir will forge only song - sing of the mysteries and beauties of the world.

A WAKE

Go ahead, dig
another Erie Canal.
Bury weapons
beneath a white pine.
Paddle back to the village
in a canoe full of fish.
Chauffeur your daughter's new trophy -
a bowling pin - proudly
around town in your Prius.
Do whatever you do to be in your life.
And if you let your life be a metaphor
for what it means to be human,
then maybe you won’t need a wake to tell you
you've labored like an angel to be alive.
