THE TETHER

A cord

must be cut.

But a blade  

won't do.

A sharp edge is

not what’s needed.

Something else is.

Something where 
there's nothing 
to hazard.

Something that's 
safe and soft 
like a gesture, 
a touch: kindness.

Only kindness can

work the slack in

that loosens the ties 
that clasp and bind.
