EARLY WINTER FRUIT
Ripening takes time. The persimmons in my backyardare teaching me this:the yellow-orangeslowly darkeningwith each day,the limbs droopinga little moreas the fruit gathers heftamong the green-veined leaves. What I don’t know iswhen do I harvestthese plump orbs, pluck them fromtheir gangly branches? And…where else in my lifeis there a ripeningthat deserves my attentionthat only a seasonlike this one can offerso slowly, so meticulously?Behind what branchand leaves, is it hiding?
